Local Doings

Restaurants

My husband and I love to eat out. We are not particular about how fine the venue is, just how good the food is.

Depending on our mood, we will eat at the finest restaurant or most unlikely hole-in-the-wall scrubby looking truck stop and be completely comfortable.

Having said all of that I would like to share a few places which we have found to be quite satisfying.

On the nicer side and more costly;

  • Our fav - LD's Woodfire Grill

  • Sapor  is the newest venue in town and we have high hopes for this one

  • Nextdoor Gastro Pub is wonderful for lunch and dinner! I hear they have a Sunday brunch starting too

  • Smuggler's Landing has the best fish and chips in town and they have Rick who will make you laugh and treat you well besides

  • Chestnut Cottage is nice for a lovely brunch

  • Edan is a good home cooked breakfast just waiting for an appetite

  • Bada Bean is handy and upbeat (just down the stairs and to the left

  • Easy Street is a little more laid back and cozy (I can't help hearing Carol Burnett sing the song of the same name from 'Annie' in my head as I walk in the door...every time.)haha

  • The Blackbird Coffeehouse is good

  • Higher Grounds makes a mean chai

Musical Events and Venues

Events

Venues

There are many venues around Port Angeles where music is played regularly, but not necessarily weekly.

The key is to know where to look.

Mondays - beginning next month The New Moon Craft Tavern will be doing karaoke. on the off nights that they don't have Paint and Sip. That could be fun because many of the local musicians tend to hang out there.

The New Moon Craft Tavern sits on the corner of 2nd and Lincoln streets.

February Events are listed below:

Shops and Markets

I love to shop!  Some of my favorite places are right down the steps in the middle of downtown Port Angeles. There are second hand shops, as well as elegantly quaint gift shops and boutiques to wet your wardrobial tastebuds (yes I just made that word up, but it fits doesn't it?). When you think you can't go on, stop in to our local sweet vending shop, Northwest Fudge, or one of the several coffee claves for a spirit lift. Then stop by Fiddleheads and Alley Cat Boutiques. Two of my favorites! Don't miss Port Book and News where there is often a reading or some interesting goings on.

Country Aire Market

We have a weekend Open-aire Market which is conducted year-round and a wonderful health food store which is open 7 days a week.

Both offer fresh local produce and thoughtful products which are less damaging to our planet.

DANCE CLASSES

If you love to dance or just want to have an experience or learn some new steps, this can be a fun option. Especially since you are visiting and no one is likely to see you ever again. So bust a move without concern. Many of these places are within walking distance from the Art House too. Bonus!

Salsa! sizzle sizzle sizzle

We have our own semi-pro baseball team here in Port Angeles. To check out there schedule and stats click below. They play only about a mile from the Art House when their is an at home game. It is quite fun, with beer gardens, hot dogs and even big comfy couches (for a little more $). Check with us, sometimes we have extra tickets.

This is our local Thespian group who are well rehearsed, and versed in many kinds of theatre. Click below for their latest show...Ha! I rhymed. Funny that!

If you happen to be here in summer, don't miss this wonderful, but fleeting, event. Feel free to bring a picnic and chairs or blanket. (The Art House is glad to loan you either or both) and be prepared to enjoy the beauty of outdoor theater. Also bring a coat as it is the Pacific Northwest after all.
